Engaging Audiences. Effecting Change.
PLUS1 IS AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION TO DRIVE SOCIAL CHANGE AND CATALYZE CULTURAL MOMENTUM TOWARD EQUITY, DIGNITY, AND ACCESS FOR ALL.
We believe artists have always been at the forefront of change.
PLUS1 grew out of the band Arcade Fire, who were looking for a way to support Haiti and realized the power that lay with the most passionate and committed people they knew: their audience. By including and committing to a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold, together with education and creative outreach, the band created a new community of support for Haiti. PLUS1 was formed to build on this success and bring together artists and millions of concert goers together with this same small act—a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold. It starts with just $1 but the collective impact of the community is exponentially bigger.
We believe we are mightier together than by ourselves.
Through alliances with live events we mobilize support for causes that are already doing rigorous work and producing measurable results. Shoulder-to-shoulder, these dollars have provided essential health care, have built schools and enhanced education systems, purchased land for conservation, have created safety and community for LGBTQ folks, have cared for those who had to flee their homes, who are seeking asylum, have built leadership systems in some of the poorest areas of the planet.

“Plus 1 is seriously great. It allows for us to contribute to issues we care about in a real way. It’s so simple and effective. We’re really happy to be a part of it. Everyone should be doing this. It’s brilliant.”
Matt Berninger, The National

Radical partnership for transformational change.”
Dr. Paul Farmer, Founder, Partners In Health
“(Plus 1) is a good way to get people involved. You’re going to buy a ticket anyway… it’s just a dollar, but it’s a way for you to donate too”
Jeremy Lloyd, Marian Hill
“Plus One is an organization of inspired leaders and artists devoted to the most important social causes of our time. They are bold, brilliant, creative and determined – exactly what every nonprofit should be. Founder & CEO
Marika spent 8 years as a member of Arcade Fire—as a musical collaborator and managing their partnerships with Partners In Health, Kanpe, and other Haitian-led initiatives. While playing on stages around the world Marika could feel the amazing energy of thousands of people coming together to experience something profound. PLUS1 was born from the belief that harnessing that energy and directing it could be a powerful change agent. Marika’s belief in the power of the PLUS1 idea has lead her to hang up her touring shoes and work to lead PLUS1 full time.
Marika studied music at McGill University and is on the Board of Directors of Partners In Health Canada and the Board of Trustees of Partners In Health.
