Engaging Audiences. Effecting Change.
We believe artists have always been at the forefront of change.
Plus One grew out of the band Arcade Fire, who were looking for a way to support Haiti and realized the power that lay with the most passionate and committed people they knew: their audience. By including and committing to a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold, together with education and creative outreach, the band created a new community of support for Haiti.
We believe we are mightier together than by ourselves.
Plus One was formed to build on this success and bring together artists, thousands of volunteers, and millions of concert goers together with this same small act—a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold.
Coupling $1 per ticket and other proven fundraising strategies with one-on-one engagement, storytelling, and outreach at concerts, Plus One works with artists to drive dollars and use our collective voice to bring attention to organizations addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges.

“Plus One is seriously great. It allows for us to contribute to issues we care about in a real way. It’s so simple and effective. We’re really happy to be a part of it. Everyone should be doing this. It’s brilliant.”

Founder & President
Marika has spent the last 8 years as a member of Arcade Fire—as a musical collaborator and managing their partnerships with Partners In Health, Kanpe, and other Haitian-led initiatives. While playing on stages around the world Marika could feel the amazing energy of thousands of people coming together to experience something profound. Plus One was born from the belief that harnessing that energy and directing it could be a powerful change agent. Marika’s belief in the power of the Plus One idea has lead her to (temporarily) lay down her viola and work to build Plus One full time. At Plus One, she leads partnership development and builds impactful and engaging campaigns. Marika studied music at McGill University and is on the Board of Directors of Partners In Health Canada and the Board of Trustees of Partners In Health. Email Marika.
Founder & Executive Director
Lisa leads the administration of Plus One, focusing on programs, partnerships and all business and legal aspects of the organization. Prior to joining the founding team of Plus One, she was attorney at an international law firm working with clients ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations. With a strong interest in criminal justice reform, she also maintained a pro bono practice that included challenges to California’s lethal injection protocol and inmate conditions at ADX, the federal supermax facility. Her dedication to social justice stems from her background in human rights and international criminal law, working at organizations such as the Open Society Justice Initiative and the UC Berkeley War Crimes Studies Center (now the Handa Center at Stanford University). Lisa is a graduate of UC Berkeley, The London School of Economics (Marshall Scholar), and Yale Law School. Email Lisa.
Matt works on strengthening Plus One’s relationships in the entertainment industry, as well as bringing an agency and management viewpoint to the development of outreach campaigns and programming.
