Engaging Audiences. Effecting Change.

Plus 1 is building a movement for good by connecting performing artists, causes, and audiences.

We believe artists have always been at the forefront of change.

Plus 1 grew out of the band Arcade Fire, who were looking for a way to support Haiti and realized the power that lay with the most passionate and committed people they knew: their audience. By including and committing to a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold, together with education and creative outreach, the band created a new community of support for Haiti.

We believe we are mightier together than by ourselves.

Plus 1 was formed to build on this success and bring together artists, thousands of volunteers, and millions of concert goers together with this same small act—a $1 donation from every concert ticket sold.

Coupling $1 per ticket and other proven fundraising strategies with one-on-one engagement, storytelling, and outreach at concerts, Plus 1 works with artists to drive dollars and use our collective voice to bring attention to organizations addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges.

Our Community

“Plus 1 is seriously great. It allows for us to contribute to issues we care about in a real way. It’s so simple and effective. We’re really happy to be a part of it. Everyone should be doing this. It’s brilliant.”

“(Plus 1) is a good way to get people involved. You’re going to buy a ticket anyway… it’s just a dollar, but it’s a way for you to donate too”

Jeremy Lloyd, Marian Hill

“Plus One is an organization of inspired leaders and artists devoted to  the most important social causes of our time. They are bold, brilliant, creative and determined – exactly what every nonprofit should be. War Child is honoured to be a Plus One partner: they are visionaries of compassion in a complex and often challenging world.”

Marika Anthony-Shaw

Founder & CEO

Marika spent 8 years as a member of Arcade Fire—as a musical collaborator and managing their partnerships with Partners In Health, Kanpe, and other Haitian-led initiatives. While playing on stages around the world Marika could feel the amazing energy of thousands of people coming together to experience something profound. Plus 1 was born from the belief that harnessing that energy and directing it could be a powerful change agent. Marika’s belief in the power of the Plus 1 idea has lead her to hang up her touring shoes and work to lead Plus 1 full time.

Marika studied music at McGill University and is on the Board of Directors of Partners In Health Canada and the Board of Trustees of Partners In Health. Email Marika.
